I have been volunteering with Bella Reed Pit-Bull Rescue for 3 years now. I have photographed dozens of adoptable dogs and puppies. It has been a goal of mine to photograph newborn puppies.

A few weeks back, Melissa, the President of Bella Reed Pit-Bull Rescue pulled a stray dog from a local shelter. Her name is Ziva. After being in foster care and the foster family noticing she was getting larger, Ziva was taken to the Vet and confirmed that she was pregnant. Her spay was canceled and the rescue prepared for a litter of puppies. Through x-ray, the Vet estimated 6 puppies. Well there were 5 more puppies hiding. On September 8th, Ziva gave birth to 11 puppies! September 10th, I had the privilege to photograph these tiny babies. Ziva is being an amazing mom.

Unfortunately, one of the puppies did pass away. With large litters, it is common that the runt's will not survive. Little Lambo was delivered not breathing and was resuscitated. Even after CPR, he did not make it today.

As much as this is a sad time, it is also a happy time that these puppies are being taken care of by the best. The volunteers at Bella Reed Pit Bull Rescue  as all chipping in and spending some time with Miss Ziva.
